We've Been Busy!!

InternationalRibbonsApril 30, 2012

On Saturday morning, April 20, 2012, 19 competitors tackled Buddy Brown's track in $5,000 High Child/Adult Grand Prix at THE INTERNATIONAL horse show held at Omaha's Century Link Center.  Of that field, only 5 posted clear rounds that awarded them the chance to return for the jump off and the glory of that first place ribbon.  One of those jump off qualifiers was Quail Run's own Tom Urban aboard his own Astro Boy.

Tom and Astro were the last to go clear in the first round, which afforded Tom the opportunity to watch the other riders over the track.  Tom and his trainers discussed the inside turns, the number of strides, and what it would take to secure the Blue.  The previous four riders put down competitive times in the jump off, but all came out with some jumping faults, so when it was Tom's turn, he knew he just needed to ride smooth and put down a clear round.  It is hard to say who was more nervous: Tom, or Jim and Dan who were looking on from the trainer's deck ringside.

In the end Tom went in and put down a beautifully smooth round that was efficient, elegant, and most importantly fault free!!

CONGRATULATIONS to Tom Urban and Astro Boy winners of the $5,000 High Child/Adult Grand Prix!

But, Astro Boy's success doesn't stop there.  On Friday, the previous day, Astro competed in the $5,000 1.20m Open Jumper Speed Derby, this time with Dan Urban in the irons.  Dan and Astro posted a quick and clean round which provided them with a 7th place finish out of 55 competitors.  Not bad!!

Tom and Dan weren't the only people celebrating success that weekend.  Overall THE INTERNATIONAL proved to be an overwhelming success.  From an exhibitors point of view the show was run excellently.  The stabling area was perfect for the horses, the footing was excellent, and the general consensus was that everyone was there to have fun!  From a spectators point of view, the whole show was highly entertaining.  The whole Quail Run team wishes to extend a big CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU to Lisa Roskens, all the sponsors, the horse show staff, and all the volunteers for putting together such an exciting competition!  We can't wait to be back next year!!

DanJacques_-_2011Beginning at the end up May and running into the first week of June, Quail Run plans to host their first ever horse show!! We intend for this first show to be a small scale show; a chance to host some good classes, give the local and regional community a nice venue, and to get our 'feet wet' hosting a show.  After this first show's inevitable success, we plan to host a larger event at the end of August and beginning of September.  We hope to see everyone at both shows!!

The START OF SUMMER AT QUAIL RUN show will take place May 30 - June 3, 2012.  The show will have a USEF "A" rating and will have a USEF Jumper Rating of "1".  In addition the show will be INHJA recognized.  The show manager will be Jim Urban.  The Hunter/Jumper/Equitation Judge will Steve Wahl of Wisconsin.  The USEF steward will be Kim Houlding of Iowa, and the course designer will be Jim Urban.

Come join us for a great week of horse showing!!

GOOD LUCK to all those competing!!

The Quail Run team wishes to extend a huge THANK YOU to Gail Dwyer.  Gail is an accomplished horse woman, dear friend, amazing photographer, and overall hard worker!  There are many, many things that Gail does for us at Quail Run and for other local horse organizations (INHJA, NHH, etc).  Without Gail's never ending hard work and dedication, many functions, activities, and events that we all take for granted would simply not happen.

Earlier this year the IOWA/NEBRASKA HUNTER JUMPER ASSOCIATION (INHJA) honored Gail with the "Helping Hand Award".  This award is given by and voted upon by the INHJA juniors.

CONGRATULATIONS GAIL!!!  You overwhelmingly deserve this, and we at QR love you!!
