The Start of Summer at Quail Run was a HUGE success!!  Thank you to all the exhibitors, staff, volunteers, and everyone else who helped us get our show off the ground!  We were very pleased with the result and we are excited to get underway with the improvements for the future.

Stabling1It was amazing to witness the transformation of the property from its normal state, into a fully functioning horse show facility.  The fruits of hours upon hours of preparation and planning really started taking shape on Memorial Day May 28, 2012.  The tent had arrived and was erected.  It was followed shortly by the stalls, which were provided by Janine Weatherby and PHOENIX EQUESTRIAN CENTER.  Thank you Janine. Numerous volunteers were on hand to help out with the finishing touches, which included: power washing and cleaning the jumps, organizing the jumps, painting the schooling standards, cleaning the facility, setting up the office, setting up the food stand, and several other equally important tasks.  The show certainly would not have been the same without all your help.  A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE VOLUNTEERS!

On Tuesday morning the air was filled with the sounds of heavy machinery as the dump trucks and front end loaders delivered and leveled the SchoolingArena2footing for the schooling rings in the driveway.  A new road was constructed to help with traffic flow and the drastic change in the traffic patterns.  While the preparations continued outdoors, the Quail Run trainers were busy inside schooling and prepping all the horses and clients for the upcoming week of competition.  The arena was open Tuesday to all exhibitors for schooling, and beginning in the morning the horse trailers started rolling in.  Quail Run was well on its way to looking like a horse show.

Competition began in the morning of May 30, 2012 with the jumpers.  Throughout the week the courses, designed by Jim Urban, were challenging, but rideable, and gave everyone a fair shot at a clean round.  The hunter courses as well were creative and all the fences looked excellent in the ring.  The top notch ring crew helped to keep the show running smoothly and looking professional.  We certainly want to give a BIG THANK YOU InGate6to Mikey Urban and Chris Rathfon, our Professional Equine Obstacle Technicians.

Highlights from the week of competition include:

  • Cousteaux as Champion in the Performance Hunter Division.
  • Patrice Urban and Cousteaux were Champion of the Amateur/Owner division.
  • Chloe Heng laid down some excellent rounds in the High Child/Adult Jumpers.
  • Susann Berry also rode very nicely in the High Child/Adult Jumpers.
  • Gita Deonarain did an excellent job both with piloting Wish Me Well around the course and the youngster Desmond owned by Janine Weatherby.
  • Mikayla Schmidt did an excellent job with the young gelding Chamz.
  • Hannah DeLano came away with a win in the ASPCA Maclay.
  • Katie DeLano piloting her own Ioupi des Cerisy with success over the tracks set by Jim Urban.
  • Beth DeLano put downs some good Hunter rounds aboard Millie on Air.
